Prothioconazole is a broad-spectrum triazolethione fungicide developed by Bayer in 2004. So far, it has been registered and widely used in more than 60 countries/regions around the world. Since its listing, prothioconazole has grown rapidly in the market. Entering the ascending channel and performing strongly, it has become the second largest fungicide in the world and the largest variety in the grain fungicide market. It is mainly used to prevent and control various diseases of crops such as corn, rice, rapeseed, peanut and beans. Prothioconazole has excellent control effects on almost all fungal diseases on grains, especially on diseases caused by head blight, powdery mildew and rust.
Through a large number of field drug efficacy tests, the results show that prothioconazole not only has good safety for crops, but also has good effects in disease prevention and treatment, and has a significant increase in yield. Compared with triazole fungicides, prothioconazole has a broader spectrum of fungicidal activity. Prothioconazole can be compounded with a variety of products to enhance drug efficacy and reduce resistance.
In the “14th Five-Year Plan” National Pesticide Industry Development Plan promulgated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of my country in January 2022, wheat stripe rust and head blight were listed as major pests and diseases affecting national food security, and prothioconazole also relies on It has good control effect, no risk to the environment, low toxicity, and low residue. It has become a drug for the prevention and treatment of wheat “two diseases” recommended by the National Agricultural Technology Center, and has broad prospects for development in the Chinese market.
In the past two years, a number of leading crop protection companies have also researched and developed prothioconazole compound products and launched them internationally.
Bayer occupies a dominant position in the global prothioconazole market, and multiple prothioconazole compound products have been registered and launched in many countries around the world. In 2021, a scab solution containing prothioconazole, tebuconazole, and clopyram will be launched. In the same year, a three-component compound grain fungicide containing bixafen, clopyram, and prothioconazole will be launched.
In 2022, Syngenta will use the combination packaging of the newly developed and marketed flufenapyramide and prothioconazole preparations to control wheat head blight.
Corteva will launch a compound fungicide of prothioconazole and picoxystrobin in 2021, and a grain fungicide containing prothioconazole will be launched in 2022.
A fungicide for wheat crops containing prothioconazole and metconazole, registered by BASF in 2021 and launched in 2022.
UPL will launch a broad-spectrum fungicide containing azoxystrobin and prothioconazole in 2022, and a soybean multi-site fungicide containing three active ingredients of mancozeb, azoxystrobin and prothioconazole in 2021.
