Metaldehyde Mechanism of Action

Metaldehyde insecticide is commonly used as a pesticide against slugs, snails, and other gastropods. When the snail comes into contact with the medicine, it will release a large amount of acetylcholinesterase in the snail, destroy the special mucus in the snail, rapidly dehydrate the snail, paralyze the nerves, and secrete mucus. Due to the loss of a large amount of body fluid and the destruction of cells, the snail will die of poisoning in a short time. It can be used to control rice snails.

Types of crops to which metaldehyde is applicable

Metaldehyde is applicable to a wide range of crop species, including but not limited to the following: 1. Leafy vegetables Artichoke and Asparagus are common leafy vegetables, the leaves of these crops are vulnerable to snails and slugs, the use of metaldehyde can effectively protect the leaves from damage. 2. Solanaceae vegetables Eggplant (Aubergine), pepper (Pepper) and tomato (Tomato) and other tomato crops are often attacked by mollusks during the growth process. Application of metaldehyde protects the roots and fruits of these crops and ensures their healthy growth. 3. Root crops Root crops such as carrots (Carrot), beets (Beet) and potatoes (Potatoes) often suffer from yield loss due to underground pest infestation. The application of metaldehyde in these crops helps to reduce pest infestation on rootstocks and enhance yield and quality. 4. Cruciferous vegetables Cruciferous vegetables such as kale (Cabbage), cauliflower (Cauliflower) and broccoli (Broccoli) are often favored by pests for their young leaves and flower bulb parts. The use of metaldehyde can effectively protect these parts and ensure smooth growth and harvesting of the crop. 5. Melon and Fruit Crops Melon crops such as cucumber, melon and watermelon are susceptible to mollusc infestation during ripening, affecting fruit appearance and quality. The application of metaldehyde prevents these infestations and safeguards the commercial value of melons and fruits. 6. Ornamental plants Ornamentals, such as roses and lilies, are often targeted by pests for their beautiful flowers and young leaves. Metaldehyde can not only protect the beauty of these plants, but also extend their ornamental period and enhance the market competitiveness of ornamental plants.

Application Methods of Metaldehyde

In agricultural production, metaldehyde is applied in a variety of ways, the following are a few common ways of use: 1. Soil treatment Spreading metaldehyde granules evenly on the soil surface can form an effective barrier to prevent snails and slugs from invading crop roots. This method is suitable for large areas of farmland and flower beds. 2. Foliar Spraying For leafy vegetables and ornamental plants, metaldehyde can be dissolved in water to make a spray solution and evenly sprayed on the surface of crop leaves. This method can not only prevent pests from attacking, but also protect the leaves. 3. Trench application When planting crops, metaldehyde can be sprinkled in the planting furrow. With watering and rainfall, metaldehyde will gradually penetrate into the soil and form a long-lasting protective barrier. This method is suitable for root crops.

Precautions for using metaldehyde

Although metaldehyde has a wide range of applications in agricultural production, the following precautions need to be taken during use: 1. Follow the dosage Follow the recommended dosage on the product manual and avoid over-application to avoid adverse effects on the environment and crops. 2. Avoid application in rainy days When applying metaldehyde, try to avoid rainy days to prevent the efficacy of the product from being reduced due to rainwater washout. 3. Human and animal isolation After the application of metaldehyde, human and livestock should be avoided to enter the treated area, especially to prevent children and pets from accidental ingestion.
